What Does Health Insurance Do?

Health insurance is a type of insurance which partially covers the cost of certain fees for healthcare emergencies and visits to the doctor. Most health insurance companies have a deductible payment which is a required payment that needs to be paid to the doctor upon the first visit under the insurance plan. After this one time deductible is paid it does not need to be paid again. Health insurance companies cover varying percentages of the total costs of routine visits to the doctor, medical emergencies and medical procedures. The health insurance company will cover that percentage of the cost, and the patient pays the rest which is called a co-payment.

What Are The Types of Health Insurance?

There are several types of health insurance such as student health insurance, HMO, and PPO. Students who are in college can get health insurance plans designed especially for them. Certain Universities offer basic health care which are part of the University fees. Students without basic health care plans can get Student Health Insurance from insurance companies. HMO and PPO health insurance plans are generally similar with the difference between them being that PPO covered people can choose which doctor within the network they would like to see and HMO covered people are provided a doctor which is chosen by the insurance company.

Are Dental, Vision and Health Care Provided?

If you are insured for healthcare, it is important to know if you are also covered for dental and vision. Certain insurance companies cover health, dental and vision and other insurance companies only offer one of the three. Some health insurance companies cover everything under one plan, however if not, dental and vision are usually covered together under one plan, and are separate from basic health insurance plans.
