Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Have you been considering a health insurance sales career in Ohio? You will need to obtain an accident and health insurance license before you can legally discuss coverages with customers and sell policies in the state of Ohio. How do you obtain an accident and health insurance license?

Enroll in an Approved Insurance Licensing Course

The first step is to find a licensing course that is approved by the Ohio Department of Insurance. Course providers can be found in larger cities like Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. You can also locate some approved courses in smaller towns such as Dayton, Akron, and Toledo. These courses will give you detailed instruction to help you understand the essentials of accident and health insurance. You will also learn how Ohio laws affect coverages, claims, policy sales, and a variety of other aspects of health and accident insurance in Ohio. Courses are typically available throughout the year, and can be completed in one to three weeks.

Submit to a Background Check

The Ohio Department of Insurance requires all license applicants to undergo a criminal background check before becoming licensed as an accident and health insurance agent. This background check includes fingerprinting, which can be completed electronically at many of the course locations throughout the state. If your course provider does not offer this service, you can be fingerprinted at your local police station.

Successfully Pass the Accident and Health Insurance Exam

After you have completed your course work and background check, you will be eligible to take the Ohio Accident and Health Insurance Exam. Testing locations are available throughout the state; larger cities have dedicated third-party testing facilities. If you achieve a score of seventy percent or better on your exam, you will receive your Ohio Accident and Health insurance license.
