Who Offers the Best Health Insurance?

With the cost of health care continuing to rise out of control, most people need health insurance to be able to afford quality medical care. Therefore, it is always beneficial to know what your options are and who offers the best health insurance. This tends to vary based upon your situation.

Group Insurance

Group insurance policies tend to offer the best benefits for the lowest costs. This is mainly due to the negotiation power of a group of people with the insurance company, as opposed to one individual. Many employers offer group health insurance. Employers know that this is a great benefit to offer. Many employers use it as a retention tool, which is why we are starting to see an increased number of employers providing their part-time employees with medical health insurance.

Private Policies

When you are self-employed or your employer does not offer health insurance, sometimes a private health insurance policy if your best option. Private health insurance policies tend to cost more for the same coverage than group insurance policies, but the benefit to them is that as long as you continue to pay the premium the don’t have to worry about having insurance when you switch employers.

Medicare/Medicaid

The government sponsors several health insurance programs. Medicare and medicaid are the most well known. These programs provide insurance at a very low cost to the elderly, disabled, and sometimes those with a very low income. Get in touch with your state’s welfare office to see if you qualify.

Options

With so many options, it is a personal decision to decide which option is best for you. If you qualify for medicare or medicaid, these programs will often give you the best coverage for the lowest price. Additionally, a group policy tends to be less expensive than a private policy, though it’s not portable if you were to leave your employer. Take some time to consider your options.
